Introduction

In our final lab report, we seek to determine whether fertilization activities on the Athletics field (on the UMBC Campus) have any affect on the stream at the nearby Herbert Run. Our primary concern is the amount of run-off into the stream from the athletic fields, which sits high above the waterway in question. We will compare our results with a stream nearby that have not been contaminated by local fertilization. This is not an errorless process, but we can determine if the stream at Herbert Run has any excessive contaminants not present in streams in the surrounding area.

Hypothesis

We hypothesize that the fertilization run-off from the Athletics field nearby will affect the quality of the stream at Herbert Run. We predict, that the quality of the stream at Herbert Run will be different in comparison with the stream from the Little Patuxent river in respect of the pH, Turbidity, Dissolve Oxygen, Nitrogen and Phosphorus levels, if so, we can conclude that interaction by an outside agent has an effect on the stream.
